No audience knows at this point, but her insights on the present and understanding of the future of the Toranaga clan have been accurate all along, possibly next to Lord Toranaga himself and no one else among the surviving characters when we see how the story goes by Ep. 10 finale. What a subtle but hidden gem-like side character she is and the cunning prophecy device by the producers! As in real history, the brothel landlady will set up a huge first “Yoshiwara licenced quarter” on her granted land in the new city Edo and prosper.
Fuji's skills was not justifiably highlighted in the series but at least she lives on as a peaceful nun and not to what was her fate in the book, so I'm good with that adaptation.
Fuji is an awesome character. Emotionally strong, loyal, and politically insightful. She takes a sip to hide her face here so she doesn't give away any expression. The final scene between she and John is chef's kiss.
It's like when someone says something awkward at a party so everyone starts swigging their beer instead of saying something. It's a way to hold your tongue.
